The Conservatives and Climate Change -7.05.43pm GMT Sat 27th Feb 2010 Dear Sir, Last week the Conservatives published a list of "Ten reasons to vote Conservative" that did not include any reference to the environment or climate change. It follows the recent revelation that reducing Britain's carbon footprint was at the bottom of Tory PPC priorities. It is no wonder that they are not sufficiently trusted to form a Government following the coming General Election. This is despite recent media attention on David Cameron's statements on pushing the environment to the top of the political agenda and being photographed with huskies and cycling to work. It is clear that there is a deep divide within the Conservative Party on the whole question of climate change and whether we are responsible for it. If he cannot unite his party on the environment what chance does he have on solving our economic challenges. The Liberal Democrats are united on insisting climate change is one of the top three challenges facing the world over the coming decades. We are the only main Party to publish details of how we aim to get to net zero emissions by 2050. Up and down the country, our local councils are at the forefront of plans to cut emissions and move to a sustainable society. Yours sincerely, Dr Peter Hirst Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Congleton Rushton Drive Congleton
