Lib Dems insist on kerbside recycling of cardboard and plastic

Last August, the ruling Conservative executive on Congleton Borough Council recommended cutting the collection of household waste from once a week to once a fortnight - without public consultation - as part of their efforts to stave off a £1.7 million spending crisis.

Householders would have faced a much worse service - with bins likely to be full to overflowing unless the Council brings in the kerbside collection of bulky recyclable waste such as plastic and cardboard.

We can report that the Liberal Democrat Opposition Councillors have forced through a change of plan.

Now the present weekly collections will remain until the Council introduces kerbside collection of plastics and cardboard.
