Libdem calls for greater security at railway stations

Written by Simon Davey on Tue 15th Aug 2006

Letter submitted to Congleton Chronicle:

Dear Sir

It is with great surprise that I see Chris Grayling, the Tory Transport Spokesperson announcing that he disagrees with railway privatisation and blaming the current administration for the fact the public don't feel safe on our railway stations. Some of your readers will know I have led a campaign with the Station Manager at Congleton Station to improve the station and its facilities. I have sent numerous letters to Mr Grayling along with Transport representatives from other Parties and all I have had in response is nice fluffy words with NO ONE wishing to take action.

I recently spoke to two teenagers who were mugged at Congleton station some months ago. I would like to challenge Mr Grayling and his Tory colleagues as to what they would do to make people feel safe after dark waiting for a train at Congleton Station and other rural and largely unmanned stations like it? I believe it was after all his Party who broke the infrastructure up in to its many confusing parts and put shareholders pockets before rail service quality and rail passenger safety. No fluffy words please.
